Transferring

Transferring as a previous JEHP student can be tough figuring out those applications, especially when you have a large number of credit hours. I left Kennesaw with 42 credit hours, and entered Berry as a Sophomore. So, here are some basic steps to getting into the school of your dreams.

  1. Find out exactly how many college credit hours you will have when you graduate, including AP.
  2. List out the schools you want to apply to and give yourself a few hours to call each and every one of them to find out whether they want you to apply as a transfer student or as a freshman, or if there'd like you to do anything special to your application to note your situation. If they can't give you a clear answer, apply as both! Remember to write this down!
  3. Whether or not the schools asked for your Kennesaw State University transcript, send it to them. If you're sending a transcript to a college, you can do that online through Owl Express.
  4. Of course, send them all your high school transcript. Get your high school to make your extra transcripts. They'll get lost "in the mail," guarenteed.
  5. Keep a per-school checklist of every item they want. This is really important if they asked you to apply as both a transfer and a freshman. Often, schools will mail you receipts for everything they've received or show it online. You can also call to verify. Check for what's sent and what's received.

You'll be talking to a lot of different people from each school who you're going to have to explain your situation to, and they're going to get confused. Just be patient. Actually, most schools have a Joint Enrollment option, they're just not as well developed as Kennesaw State's, so if the secretary doesn't know, the next level up usually understand.
